360 Reaches 10 Million in the US
by Matt Schmachtenberg May 15th 2008 12:02 AM EDT1 Comments
Some big news today out of Microsoft: The Xbox 360 has officially sold 10 million units in the US of A, along with 9 million in the rest of the world, bringing the total number of consoles to 19 million. Don Mattrick, senior vice president in the Entertainment and Devices Division of MS, believes that now that they're the first company to sell 10 million consoles in the US this generation, they'll win the console war this generation. The logic makes sense; it looks like the 360 is poised to be this generation's PS2, though I'm pretty shocked that the Wii hasn't sold 10 million here yet. The final push from 17 million to 19 million just happened recently in a short period of time, most likely due of the release of GTAIV (because violence sells).Hit the jump for some more numbers from MS.
Another big milestone for Microsoft occured on Live; 12 million members are now signed up to the service, making it also the biggest online service out of the three consoles for the second generation in a row. While it's not surprising that XBL is beating the PS3 and Wii, those figures mean that over half of 360 owners are now connected to Live, which is amazing, if you ask me.
And for two other bits of random bragging, the Xbox 360 also has the highest game attachment rate and is the system with the most games with a rating of 80 or higher on Metacritic.
Tomorrow, Microsoft will announce that they are taking over the world.
