Microsoft RPG lineup: A one stop shop

by Beau King June 11th 2008 10:44 AM EDT4 Comments

Just recently Microsoft hosted an event to showcase their current workings on the RPG side of things. However, much like reganomics, the information has trickled through the wires slowly and disproportionately. Luckily this writer has surfed around until his fingers bled in order to provide a one stop shop RPG fangasm. Complete with trailers, release dates, and quick game summaries; your appetites will be more than whet.

Square Enix, the RPG gurus, are responsible for the forthcoming titles listed here by release date. Coming first down the pipeline is Infinite Undiscovery which will hit stores in the states on September 2nd, followed by Europe three days later and Japan being the last on the 11th. The game appears to use the same type of grandiose save-the-world plotline we’ve all become accustomed to. The main difference here is that it is done by a teenager, possibly his twin, and a few friends. Watch the trailer provided by X3F for more.

Much more after the jump.

Details on this next one have been kind of hush-hush because Square Enix would rather save word until E3 next month. Nonetheless, we do know of a timetable release set this winter for the Xbox 360 and have enough from the trailer to grant more than simple speculation. This one portrays more of good guys vs. bad guys appeal. Interesting to note is about 1:33 into the trailer where what looks like a typical health bar is actually a tug-o-war type gauge showing the allies position in relation to the enemies. Land a massive attack and the node moves right. Get attacked and the opposite happens. You get the picture. Until more is released, feel free to analyze this trailer for yourselves.

Last but definitely not least comes more word on the much anticipated Star Ocean 4, since changed to Star Ocean: The last hope. This one has a longer wait time stretching into next year but looks worth it. The trailer showcases a path leading from a manmade apocalyptic ruin to an escape into deep space in search of more. Due to its later release this one remains in its speculative stages for now. However, it still looks pretty.
