  • Intro for Mega Man 9 is here

by Gus Lanzetta August 14th 2008 2:02 AM CDT0 Comments

Chun-Li is totally the chick from the TV news show... Well, there is not much else to say. Watch the intro for the first Mega Man game on an Xbox platform ever below:
  • 360 Arcade is selling more than the Pro (In Oz)

    by August 14th 2008 1:46 AM CDT0 Comments

Ozzy fellas (or mates) have to deal with higher prices in gaming and a very restrictive ratings board and now all that crazyness is showing its effects on gamers' minds down under: Australians are buying more Arcade SKUs than they are Pros or Elites. That is according to official data from Xbox Australia. The very likely explanation for this "phenomenon" is that, with recent price cuts, the Arcade got 50 Australian dollars cheaper than the Wii, making it the cheapest console around (except for the PS2) the land where the wallabees roam.

Now people are connecting some imaginary dots and speculating that the likeability of a new price drop for the US market is high and that with the Arcade at 199U$ we would observe a similar trend in sales in North America. That is certainly a possibility, don't you guys think so?
  • Some info on the new South Park game

by Gus Lanzetta August 14th 2008 1:37 AM CDT0 Comments

When Microsoft announced that a new South Park game was coming exclusively to the Live Arcade everyone was caught by surprise. Especially because there doesn't seem to be a lot that can be done with a South Park game to make it interesting. Especially because we all remember that horrible N64 FPS... No! Throwing virtual snowballs was not fun!

Well, now the folks over at MTV's Multiplayer blog have uncovered a little bit of information that at least makes us sure that even if the games sucks balls (like Cartman's mom) it will do so in a different way.

So what we know adds up to: It's a strategy game developed Doublesix Games (who made Geometry Wars: Galaxies), it'll be published under the new Xbox Live Productions label (that debuted yesterday with Fable 2 Pub Games) and it's coming next year.

So, are you guys excited? Maybe it's actually good, I mean, they did make a big deal out of it's announcement and all.
  • Pre-order codes for Pub Games causing mayhem

by Gus Lanzetta August 14th 2008 1:22 AM CDT0 Comments

Maybe mayhem is not the right word to describe the situation, be it felt more in line with Peter Molyneux's way of talking about anything remotely related to anything he is remotely related to. And he is totally related to the Fable 2 Pub Games that came out today on the Xbox Live Arcade. Thing is: people who pre-ordered Fable 2 were given codes that would give them the Pub Games for "free", but it seems that a lot of the codes are not working at all. The last word from Microsoft until now was that the codes would be working "later today", but it's already tomorrow.

That is a bad situation for Microsoft, but even more for the fans that paid early for the game and expected this bonus. What about you guys, anyone here had a busted code?
  • What to achieve in Mega Man 9

by Gus Lanzetta August 14th 2008 1:17 AM CDT0 Comments

The old Mega Man games were very hard. So when the whole thing about Mega Man 9 is that it's "so retro", we can expected it to be up there with its excrutiatingly hard older brothers. But now, we know that the achievements for the game will be (probably) very hard to get... Hard core style (shoot me for writing that).

You can check out the full list at MyGamerCard.net, but be sure to notice how all of them scream "Gus is totally not going to even try".
  • Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Fable II Pub Games hit XBLA

by Chris Holmes August 13th 2008 2:21 PM CDT0 Comments

Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion conitnued today with the relase of both Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Fable II: Pub Games on Live Arcade. Both cost 800 microsoft points, which is $10 for those who do not posess a calculator.

Rearmed is a remake of the the original Bionic Commando from the NES, not to be confused with the full 3D version currently in development. Fable II: Pub Games allows people to earn gold that can be transferred to Fable II when it comes out in October, and some retailers will be giving away codes to get this for free if they pre-order it and you can't really argue with that price, unless it falls foul of Yaris syndrome.
  • Brett Farve? Never heard of him

by Gus Lanzetta August 13th 2008 3:12 AM CDT0 Comments

Madden NFL Football '09 hit retailer's shelfs today and it only took a few hours for someone to discover that Brett Favre's name was mispelled on the collector's edition's menu screen (screenshot above).

You know, this is not looking like a good year for EA's Madden. First Favre switches teams in between shooting for the cover of the game and the actual release date, so the game came out with an outdated (or vintage for the overly optimistic) cover and now this. Maybe there will be an update that fixes the mistake, but the data on the disc will always be wrong (or until EA pays Favre to change his name).

Ok, maybe I am blowing this out of proportion, but you know some fool is going to swing by and start saying that Favre actually used a reverse-spell to turn the Madden curse on to EA and that now any publisher that puts its logo on the cover of Madden will have a bad Madden year and the only way to fix this is to mispell Madden... Maybe I am the fool. But what do you think about this? Are you not getting the collector's edition because of this? Are you going to boicot Madden/EA? Are you going to say "I don't like football"?
  • CONFIRMED: Final Fantasy XI is a game for crazy people

by Gus Lanzetta August 13th 2008 2:49 AM CDT1 Comments

I don't know if this is the boss mentioned in the article, but if it is any indication: no one is puking in this pic.Final Fantasy XI was not a very popular MMO, but it has its share of avid players and the community is an active one... More and more it gets hard to know why.

First, Sage Sundi, the Global Online Producer and Lead Game Master for Final Fantasy XI, said it took about 18 hours to beat one of the game's bosses. The name of this boss is Absolute Virtue (no relation to the vodka or any real virtue) and there was a clan of players that decided they were going to beat him/her/it... They did.

So, a few weeks ago, Square Enix released a new content pack that added new bosses to FF XI, the toughest one is called
Pandemonium Warden (just to keep in line with the random-words-thrown-in-together-to-sound-tough names). Hit the jump to continue the hilarity.
  • Australia will get Fallout 3, but not

by Gus Lanzetta August 13th 2008 2:08 AM CDT0 Comments

The Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) has a skewed vision of reality where it feels that any game that they do not think is suited for 15 year olds should be outright banned from the country. Unfortunately they are supported by the local government. Because of that, they had, earlier in the year, refused to rate Fallout 3 for its use of "chems" (drugs that affect your character's performance and abilities). They said that it was too close to the drugs of the real world. The one where 15 year olds have never even heard of drugs, of course.

Well, now there are bittersweet news coming from down under: Fallout 3 has been awarded a MA 15+ rating by the OFLC. But that is only because the version that will be sold in Australia has differences in the way it rewards the player in the use of "chems".

What do you guys think about this?
  • Mercenaries 2 will have drop-in/drop-out co-op

by Gus Lanzetta August 13th 2008 1:52 AM CDT1 Comments

Boy, does that title have a lot of dashes. And there is a slash to top it all off.

Now to the news: Mercenaries 2: World In Flames will have cooperative play. You probably knew that, but now we know that there will be no extra loadings, lobbys or menus between your selfish loner fun and your play sessions with your "virtureal" friend. Whoever joins will be able to do anything in the game's campaign mode with the host, but the progress is only saved in the host's game. Yet, when you quit a friend's game you will keep all the weapons, ammo and cash collected while playing: AWESOME!
