Upcoming Batman game revealed by Game Informer
by Gus Lanzetta August 12th 2008 11:17 PM CDT2 Comments
Game Informer's website has posted the two covers of its next issue, which will hit newstands and subscribers' homes at the end of the month. The game featured on them is Batman: Arkham Asylum, which is developed by Rocksteady Studios and will be published by Eidos.
GI's site describes the game as a "completely original title explores Gotham City’s darkest location, the infamous Arkham Asylum. But as a routine prison transfer goes wrong, the Joker sets his demented plan into action and Batman comes face to face with an army of his worst enemies. In a dark and gritty setting reminiscent of Bioshock (with a story co-written by Paul Dini), Arkham Asylum is setting the stage for a true-to-character Batman game." - Sounds good to me, lets wait for the magazine to come out. Or better yet: for the game to come out, which is rumored to be sometime next year. -
Vigilante 8 Arcade pretty much done
by Gus Lanzetta August 12th 2008 11:06 PM CDT0 Comments
Vigilante 8 Arcade is the new entry on the car combat series that is coming to the Xbox Live Arcade and now, Isopod Labs, the developers of the game has announced that V8 Arcade was sent to Microsoft's quality assurance department.
The game will mix the gameplay elements of the original Vigilante 8 and the sequence, Second Offense. It'll also add new cars, weapons, levels and online multiplayer modes.
We should get an estimated release date after the quality testing process is done with (which can take time).

Left 4 Dead's 360 version to be playable at PAX
by Gus Lanzetta August 12th 2008 10:56 PM CDT0 Comments
Valve announced today that the Xbox 360 version of the zombie slaying FPS known as Left 4 Dead will be playable at PAX. There will be two 360s running the game and four people at a time will be able to play in each system. This will be the first time the public will have the chance to experience the game, so if you are super excited for L4D, guarantee a ticket to PAX.
To finish up the Left 4 Dead public exposition watch: the PC version will be playable at the Leipzig Games Convention and the Festival du Jeu Video and PC Gamer Showdown (best game event name ever). It's also good to note that all three events cited are open to the public. -
Braid selling a lot, rated very high
by Gus Lanzetta August 12th 2008 10:46 PM CDT0 Comments
Braid is out there stealing the hearts and minds of gamers around the world. But not in a bad way at all.
Jo(nathan) Blow, the game's creator has posted a few of the games real life achievements on the official Braid blog. The first one mentioned is that Braid is now the highest rated Xbox Live Arcade game at Metacritic, where it's also the 10th highest rated game for the Xbox 360, surpassing the aggregate score of Mass Effect.
On the sales side the game is also doing well, with estimate sales at 28.5k copies sold during its first three days of availability. But Mr. Blow apparently blew a lot more cash to make the game and stated that the game needs to sell a lot more for it to break even. Lets hope it does generate profit, if not with the 360 release, with the upcoming PC version.

Death Tank coming to XBLA
by Chris Holmes August 12th 2008 10:20 PM CDT0 Comments
Everyone's favourite leaky ratings board the USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle), has today let slip that Death Tank is coming to the Xbox Live Arcade. For those of you unfamiliar with Death Tank, it was a multiplayer tour-de-force in it's heyday with it's simple interface and addictiveness. Essentially, it is like Worms and Scorched Earth in style, with a similar 2D viewpoint and a destructible environment. However, there was one key difference, as Death Tank was in realtime, making the battles quite frantic. Keep an eye out for more on this, with Leipzig a few weeks away it could be making an appearance there.

EA releases new cover for Madden 09
by Chris Holmes August 12th 2008 3:52 PM CDT0 Comments
For those fans of American Football purchasing their copies of Madden 09 this week, they might be feeling a little miffed that the cover has Brett Favre in his old Packers uniform.
Such a travesty has been the subject of much forethought by the brains at EA, and to ensure you get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of your Madden 09 cover, they have made an amended version that can be downloaded on their website, featuring Favre in his new Jets uniform.
In other news, there is a roster download that puts him into his proper squad and sorts out this situation, so you can breathe a sigh of relief into your pillows tonight.

by Gus Lanzetta August 12th 2008 3:25 PM CDT0 Comments

Yesterday, Edge Magazine held its yearly award's ceremony in Edimburgh and Halo 3 took home the Edge Award For Interactive Innovation.
The honor is described by the organizers as an "accolade to the title released in the last 12 months that does most to further the creative culture of gaming – in other words, to mark out new directions for the form." The judges' choice was summed up in the Edge website today with the following words: -
Death of a game in the online age: What nobody plays
by Gus Lanzetta August 12th 2008 1:33 PM CDT0 Comments

OXM UK's website has posted a very interesting article where their editors explored the online environment of many 360 games that are... Well, unpopular at best.
Click here to read the full feature, but we'll warn you, they only found one player in World Championship Snooker 2007 and Brian Lara International Cricket. Maybe if we get the two guys together in somekind of Snookricket game they can play together forever. Also, read the part about World Championship Poker, it seems so much like underground UNO that I kind of wanna try it.
What about you guys, are there games you play online where you struggle to find other people?

Jake Gyllenhall in the PoP movie
by Gus Lanzetta August 11th 2008 9:35 PM CDT0 Comments
Look, it's Jake Gyllenhaal all dressed up as Dastan (the prince formerly known as The Prince of Persia). Don't worry, it's not cosplay, it's for a movie.
I must say he looks closer to the look of the game as I thought he would, but I totally preffer the Sands of Time look, especially with the movie being called Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Also, I can't stop thinking that hair is a wig and there is something just wrong looking about his abs in this pic (or is that just me spending way too much time at his muscles?)
This is the paragraph where I should make fun of him for playing a gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain, but I won't. It's stupid and childish. Plus the movie is not that bad ok? Good, now put it behind you (not in the Brokeback sense. Ha!)
What do you all think of his look? What about the movie? Will it finally be the great movie based on a videogame, the big screen messiah?

Analysts do their guessing: 360 outsold PS3 in July
by Gus Lanzetta August 11th 2008 6:37 PM CDT0 Comments
Industry analysts are paid to spout out predictions about where things are going, but most of the time they seems to be guessing with less accuracy than they should. And they're up to it again. The NPD numbers for the July sales will be released on Thursday, but Michael Pachter and his cohorts have been talking out their assess again.
NCAA Football 09, Final Fantasy IV (DS), Soul Calibur IV (360, PS3), Metal Gear Solid 4, LEGO: Indiana Jones, Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii are the "probable" top sellers and the Wii is supposed to sell 650 thousand units, which is more than the number Pachterpulled out of his asspredicted the sales of the PS3 (250K) and the 360 (275K) would add up to.
If you want to read the full list of the "impressive" videogame industry futurology then... Click here (but if you were Pachter you would already know that before reading).
